The Kids Are Not All Right

American teenagers are not all right. Growing rates of anxiety and depression, 
emergency room visits for mental health issues, and suicides point to an alarming trend—teenagers are living through a serious mental health crisis. 

IPR spoke with four of its experts about what we know about the surge in teen mental health issues and how to support struggling teenagers.

IPR Welcomes Esteemed Sociologist from Johns Hopkins to Northwestern

This spring, Johns Hopkins sociologist Stefanie DeLuca, a Northwestern alumna, will join IPR as its inaugural visiting scholar. IPR's new Visiting Scholars Program brings leading researchers to Northwestern for short residencies, fostering collaboration and intellectual exchange with IPR faculty and students.


Stopping Gun Violence

Gun violence is a public health crisis, rippling through communities. Staff, faculty, and alumni at CORNERS, the Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research and Science, led by IPR sociologist Andrew Papachristos and executive director Soledad Adrianzén McGrath, work alongside those most affected to reduce gun violence and empower communities. Their research shows that violence intervention efforts are making a difference.


Wage Theft Lifts $44 Million Out of L.A. Fast Food Workers' Pockets Each Year

A new report by IPR political scientist Daniel Galvin and Jake Barnes of Rutgers University uses government survey data to examine wage theft at fast food restaurants. They show that 25% of fast food workers in Greater Los Angeles were illegally paid below the minimum wage in 2024.
